Residents concerned at impact of Chinese-funded port in Chancay

In the Peruvian town of Chancay, located around 100 kilometres north of the capital Lima, construction is currently underway on a "mega port", intended to be South America's largest hub for the transport of goods. China is Peru's largest trading partner and the main investor in the project, which is part of Beijing's Belt and Road Initiative. The local population, however, is torn between a desire for development and fears about the social and environmental impact of the mega project.
