Religious celebrations in the time of coronavirus

Easter, Passover, Ramadan — how can the faithful fulfill their religious obligations when large gatherings are forbidden due to the coronavirus. Sabine Kinkartz says it's possible, but it requires a bit of creativity.

In order to discourage large gatherings during Britain's coronavirus lockdown the country's mosques have generally stopped broadcasting the traditional call to prayer. But with the holy season of Ramadan drawing to a close, one of Britain's largest Muslim places of worship, the Baitul Futuh Mosque in south London, has been granted permission to resume their evening call to prayer.

Pastry chef Walter Musco turns his shop in Rome's working-class Tor Marancia district into an art gallery displaying Easter eggs sculpted in hommage to great names from the worlds of art and literature. The creations of the self-taught "pasticciere" are fully edible, although can also be stored uneaten for years, Musco says, provided they are kept cool and out of the sun.

Six of the group have been granted bail pending sentencing.
