Paris Olympics test event canceled over Seine River pollution

Water quality tests showed higher than acceptable levels of bacteria in the Seine River. It's the third time this month organizers have been forced to cancel a swimming event in the waterway.

Like many festivals, Rock en Seine has to revamp its 2020 edition in light of social distancing regulations amid the pandemic. Just one concert takes place instead of the usual 3-day line-up, with about twenty artists performing for some 1,500 people at the Domaine national de Saint-Cloud (Hauts-de-Seine).

After five weeks of coaching and a course on banking, the professional training programme offered them the possibility to obtain a work contract with a major French bank. The host city of Paris is hoping to organise a swimming competition for the 2024 Olympic Games. But first, a massive clean-up operation has to get underway. Some 360 tonnes of waste are dredged up out of the murky waters every year. An orca stranded in the Seine will be euthanized, French officials said, noting that it appeared to be "in critical state of health." Scientists previously tried to lure the animal back into the sea using orca calls.
