Joe Biden picks all-female senior White House communications team

He was their lodestar, the man who brought fringe populists from Hungary to Brazil in from the diplomatic cold, elevating their science-dismissing, migrant-scapegoating, nationalistic message from the balcony of its greatest perch: the White House.

President-elect Biden has chosen top campaign aides to fill senior positions in his White House press team. For the first time in US history, the entire senior communications staff will be women.

The United States will release up to 60 million doses of the AstraZeneca Covid-19 vaccine, White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki says at her daily briefing. The Food and Drug Administration will perform quality checks over the next few months on US-produced doses before they are sent abroad, she adds. But, she explains, "Just to be clear, right now we have zero doses available of AstraZeneca."

The outgoing German chancellor is set to travel to Washington for talks with the US president on COVID, climate change and bilateral ties.
