Inside Iran: A misunderstood nation?

Iran tends to dominate the news cycle, whether that's over its contentious nuclear programme, relations with the West or its domestic situation. Yet it continues to be a country misunderstood by many. Iranians often find themselves having to prove to the rest of the world that theirs is not a monolithic society. To find out more, we speak to Tara Kangarlou, author of "The Heartbeat of Iran".

Last week, a 17-year-old girl was killed by her husband in Iran. A gruesome video showing the alleged killer holding a knife in one hand and his wife's head in the other went viral before being taken down. According to the Iranian foreign minister, ongoing talks in Vienna are now making significant progress. The 2015 agreement offered Tehran sanctions relief in exchange for the country curbing its nuclear programme. But under president Donald Trump, the United States in 2018 pulled out of the deal and re-imposed harsh economic sanctions.
