After months of buildup, the European Commission has backed withholding billions of EU funds from Hungary. Despite recent reforms, Budapest must do more to address risks to core democratic standards, EU officials say.

President Vladimir Putin condemns moves by G7 nations to impose a cap on the price of Russian oil and EU states looking to introduce a price cap on Russian gas. At an economic forum in Vladivostok he said that sanctions against his country 'threaten the whole world.'

European leaders have promised aid to Ukraine "for as long as it takes." But the amount of aid promised has not been what has actually arrived in Ukraine. DW's Nick Connolly takes a look at what kind of support has been pledged so far.
