Debunking a deepfake video of Zelensky telling Ukrainians to surrender

A deepfake video of President Volodymyr Zelensky has been broadcast on a Ukrainian news website, Ukraine 24, that was hacked. In the false video, Zelensky states that he will lay down arms and return to his family. We take a closer look in this edition of Truth or Fake.

Social media users have been sharing images that purport to be of Taliban spokesperson Zabihullah Mujahid. It's claimed they show he's leading a double life. The photos, supposedly, include him failing to wear a head covering and even posing alongside a woman who also isn't wearing a headscarf or veil. But by using reverse image searches and facial recognition technology, it's easy to see the photos are all of other people. The means to spot fakes are out there, but people have to want to look.

The footage of a mob beating a man to death is being shared alongside claims he was the victim of a racist attack, killed for being Muslim. Thousands have seen the video, but how many will have spotted the story isn't true? Plus, the photographer who faked an entire book about fake news comes clean. Jonas Bendiksen says he wanted to show how easy it is to fool people with images, much to the embarrassment of France's "Visa pour l'image" photojournalism festival.
