The day, which is known as the ‘Day of the race’ in some parts of Latin America, focuses on the development of the Hispanic race from the Spanish colonizers and is a cause for both celebration and protest as the country grapples with its colonial past.

Hill accused Bauer of two instances of sexual assault, with the district attorney's office refusing to press criminal charges. Despite Bauer not being found guilty of the crime, MLB suspended him for 324 games and was later released by the Dodgers.
