Liz Truss on Monday won the backing of Conservative Party members to take over from Boris Johnson as the United Kingdom’s next prime minister.The foreign secretary fended off competition from her opponent, ex-finance chief Rishi Sunak, by securing the backing of 81,326 of the 172,437 of Conservative Party members who cast their vote in an election that closed Friday.

We look at the front pages of the UK's main newspapers as Liz Truss takes over from Boris Johnson as British prime minister. Many of the Conservative-supporting papers focus on Truss's message that she will "deliver" as the country reels from a series of crises. One tabloid, the Daily Star, calls this the "end of an error", referring to Johnson's hapless hold on power. Another tabloid, the Labour-supporting Daily Mirror, dismisses Truss's leadership victory as just the "same old Tories".

Truss, 47, defeated rival Rishi Sunak in the Conservative Party leadership contest, and she follows Margaret Thatcher and Theresa May as the third female British Premier Minister.
