War against terrorism – 200 new army officers join military mandate

The global defense budget saw its largest yearly increase in 14 years in 2023, according to the think tank SIPRI. Russia's war in Ukraine, the China-Taiwan crisis and other global conflicts played a significant role.

Israel's economy suffered a major contraction in the final quarter of 2023, following the terrorist attacks. Its economy shrank by 5.2% compared with the previous quarter. Much was related to the labor force disruption which resulted when around 300,000 reservists were called up to the country's armed forces.

The Iran-backed rebel group has begun to extend its power locally and regionally. However its policies are far from good governance, exacerbating the humanitarian situation and the economic crisis across Yemen.
