'Amy' is a red-haired pop star with legions of fans in China, yet she only exists in the digital world. Although they originated in Japan, virtual idols are gaining popularity in China, appearing on concerts, TV shows, billboards and news programmes as the companies behind them aim to blur virtual and real worlds.
