The Nobel Prize in literature has been awarded to US poet Louise Glück for her "unmistakable poetic voice that with austere beauty makes individual existence universal."

Tanzanian novelist Abdulrazak Gurnah has won the 2021 Nobel Prize for Literature for his works exploring the effects of colonialism and the experiences of refugees.

Tanzanian novelist Abdulrazak Gurnah, 72, won the 2021 Nobel Prize in Literature for his writing on the “effects of colonialism and the fate of the refugee," the award-giving body said on Thursday. Born in 1948 on the island of Zanzibar, now part of Tanzania, Gurnah moved to Britain as a young refugee in 1968.

The 2021 winners were chosen for providing new insights into the labor market and highlighting the importance of so-called natural experiments. The award wraps up this year's Nobel Prize season.

Philippine journalist Maria Ressa and Russian journalist Dmitry Muratov received their Nobel Peace Prize on Friday in Oslo. The two laureates were awarded the prize on October 8 "for their courageous fight for freedom of expression" in the face of authoritarian governments.

Their work on quantum mechanics has paved the way for our understanding of how particles behave at the subatomic scale. They have also laid the foundation for a new era of quantum technology, including quantum computing.

The Swedish Academy gave the award to French memoirist Annie Ernaux. An icon of autobiographical fiction, the author of "The Years" joins the ranks of other prestigious figures in the literary scene.
