Soft drink sugar tax hits South Africa

South Africa's Finance Minister, Pravin Gordhan announced during his budget speech that a tax on sweetened sugar beverages would be implemented by April 2017. While the beverage industry contest the idea, many support it as it could help curb the obesity epidemic in South Africa.
