As the 2020 governorship election draws near, history comes to play in the politics of Ondo state as the Deputy Governor, Agboola Ajayi (Zenith Labour Party) from the South District, burnt the boat to challenge his boss, the incumbent, Governor Rotimi Akeredolu (APC) from North Senatorial District at the poll. The incumbent, Rotimi Akeredolu is seeking re-election under the ruling APC, while Eyitayo Jegede, who hails from Central District, is making a 2nd attempt under PDP.
