Ibrahim Rotich, the husband of slain Kenyan Olympic runner Agnes Tirop, was charged with her murder and pleaded not guilty in a Kenyan court on Tuesday (November 16). Rotich, 41, had been ordered last week to undergo a mental health test before entering a plea. Tirop was found stabbed to death at her home in the Rift Valley town of Iten on Oct. 13, in a case that has shone a spotlight on violence against women in the east African country. Rotich appeared in court in handcuffs, wearing a black jacket and a cap. He looked down at the floor for most of the proceedings.

Prince Philip, husband of the Queen Elizabeth II, has died. Philip was always committed to his role, and was longest-serving consort in British history. Philip was blessed with robust health for much of his long life but was repeatedly admitted to hospital with various complaints as he advanced into his 90s, and in 2017 Buckingham palace announced he would be retiring from his public duties. Prince Philip will be remembered for his no-nonsense approach, combined with his infamous and sometimes politically incorrect off-the-cuff remarks, but also for his unwavering devotion to duty and to his queen.

With his Rwandan-born wife Dafroza, Alain Gauthier has devoted decades of his life to tracking down genocide suspects who have found refuge in France. So far, the Gauthiers' efforts have led to about 30 legal cases being initiated in France against Rwandan suspects, all of them men. Alain Gauthier used a recent trip to Rwanda to seek testimony against Claude Muhayimana, a former hotel driver in Rwanda who took refuge in France and gained French nationality in 2010. He is accused of having transported militiamen to sites in the west, including the Bisesero region, where massacres were carried out. His trial was due to begin in Paris on February 2 2021, but has been delayed owing to the coronavirus pandemic making it difficult for witnesses to travel.

68-year-old Margaret Adenuga and husband Noah, 70 have been delivered of twins at the Lagos University Teaching Hospital, Idi Araba. Lagos, Nigeria. The woman was pregnant for the first time following an in vitro fertilisation. She was delivered of the babies – a boy and a girl – through an elective Caesarean section on April 14.
