Thousands of commuters were stranded on Monday and expected to be through the week as the Joint Drivers’ Welfare Association of Nigeria (JDWAN) commenced a seven-day strike over “multiple and excessive extortions” by the Parks Management Committee headed by Musiliu Akinsanya.

Drivers of commercial buses, popularly called ‘Danfo', along the Oshodi-Apapa Expressway, are protesting over the incessant extortion they face from state officials. Gradually, Nigeria is going on a total lockdown as more states close their borders as a measure to curb the spread of COVID-19. When The Guardian visited the Lagos-Abeokuta expressway toll gate end bordering the two states, there was little or no activities in the Ogun State end. All shops were locked in the border area of Lagos and many commuters stranded.
