Gaza hospital raid complicates cease-fire negotiations: Nawaf Al-Thani

Since at least November 17, the Israeli army has been claiming that they found Hamas tunnels located under Al Shifa hospital in Gaza. However, many social media users are now claiming that the Israelis have simply discovered tunnels that they dug themselves. We tell you who might have built these tunnels in this edition of Truth or Fake.

Earlier this week, the IDF released footage showing the inside of the tunnel shaft and part of the tunnel. After around 55 meters, the tunnel ended with a blast door, likely protecting Hamas assets below ground. The IDF has said for weeks that a major network of tunnels and bunkers exists under Shifa.

A video claiming to show a nurse at Gaza's Al-Shifa Hospital has gone viral. Denouncing Hamas’s occupation of the facility, the nurse said that Hamas is stealing all of the hospital's food, fuel and medicine in the video. A closer examination of the clip, however, revealed that it is most likely staged. We tell you more in this edition of Truth or Fake.

Israeli soldiers stormed Gaza's largest hospital on Wednesday, targeting what they believe is a major Hamas command centre located beneath the hospital complex. But compelling evidence that Hamas fighters are carrying out operations from medical facilities in Gaza remains scarce, according to Lex Takkenberg, Senior Advisor on the Question of Palestine at the Arab Renaissance for Democracy and Development based in Amman.
