Hundreds of people gather at dawn on the beaches of Chigasaki, about 70 km south of the Japanese capital, to watch the first sunrise of the new year 2021. "I really wanted to see the sunrise, a way to show my gratitude for the past year and to wish all the best for the new one," says one woman.
