Officially, the floating Lagos slum of Makoko does not exist. It does not appear on any city planning documents or maps. But that is about to change, thanks to a team of local volunteers and South Africa-based NGO Code For Africa. Using geolocalising technology, they navigate the waterways of this floating slum to create a map that they hope will improve the lives of those living here.

After being bought by an NGO, the Pont-Scorff zoo is set to be transformed into a wildlife rehabilitation centre. Rewild, a coalition of seven associations, collected €650,000 in a fundraiser and has until 31 May to gather necessary funds for the purchase.

Since the start of the Covid-19 epidemic, there has been no shortage of solidarity with those on the frontline on the pandemic. One such example comes from the French NGO Aviation Sans Frontières ("Aviation Without Borders"), which has brought together key players in the aviation sector to allow medical professionals to travel by plane free of charge from one French region to another. The Sea-Eye 4, one of the ships operated by the German non-profit Sea-Eye, docks in the southern Sicilian port of Pozzallo and disembarks 415 migrants rescued in the Mediterranean. Italy is one of the main points of entry into Europe for migrants from North Africa, mainly from Libya and Tunisia. More than 13,350 people have arrived on Italian shores since January, three times more than in the same period a year earlier, according to the interior ministry.
