Richard "Rick" Slayman, 62, who made history as the first person to undergo a pig kidney transplant, has passed away. This is just two months post-operation, according to Massachusetts General Hospital. Slayman suffered from end-stage kidney disease, Type 2 diabetes, and hypertension. With the pig kidney transplant being successful, his death wasn't linked to the procedure by doctors.

The death toll from floods caused by heavy rains in Brazil has risen to 144, authorities said Sunday. Following heavy rains that have been affecting the southern state of Rio Grande do Sul since last week, loss of life and property is steadily increasing.
