The Lagos State Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, has announced a massive enforcement operation to clear street urchins, popularly known as Omotakus, from major parts of the state.
According to a statement shared by the commissioner, the week-long operation led by the Lagos State Taskforce has already resulted in the arrest of 281 individuals across the Island and Mainland.
Areas already covered by the Taskforce:
Island: Lekki Phase 1, Ikoyi, VI, Bourdillon, Ajah, and Apongbon.
Mainland: Egbeda, Akowonjo, Fadeyi, Costain, Jibowu, Yaba, Surulere, and Ojuelegba.
Reports indicate that the authorities are targeting these undesirable elements to reduce safety risks to motorists and pedestrians while maintaining environmental sanity. Commissioner Wahab reiterated the state’s zero-tolerance policy for activities that threaten public order and confirmed that those apprehended have been arraigned in court.
