Zohran Mamdani has made history as New York City’s first Muslim mayor, alongside being its first mayor of South Asian descent and the first to be born in Africa. His historic victory in November 2025 made him the youngest mayor since 1892. Mamdani’s platform focused on economic justice, including promises for rent freezes and free city services.
