Poor waste management in Zanzibar means residents often throw their garbage onto the streets, generating mountains of rubbish. Now one citizen's community initiative is trying to tackle the problem head on.

For years, Lebanese citizens have been dealing with the consequences of bad waste management. This is especially visible in the capital Beirut and the heavily urbanised coastal areas, where the waste crisis has an extremely negative impact on marine ecosystems.

On September 10, the citizens of Moscow will go to the polls to elect local councilors. One of the key campaign issues is the environment - and more specifically, waste management.
