An Australian long-distance swimmer breaks the world record for the most number of swims across the Channel between England and France. Chloe McCardel, 36, made the swim for the 44th time, breaking the previous record of 43 she had held jointly with British swimmer Alison Streeter.

Maana Patel made India's Olympic history on Friday (July 2) by becoming the country's first female swimmer to qualify for Tokyo 2020, after world governing body FINA approved her participation under the universality quota following some strong performances in European meets in the last three months.
The universality quota allows one female and male participant each from a country to take part in the Olympics, provided no other swimmer from the same gender qualifies for the competition through the normal process.
