Michelangelo dreamed it, Olivier Grossetête did it: the artist from Marseille has created a cardboard bridge over the Tiber River in Rome to link the gardens of the Villa Farnesina to the Farnese Palace, a splendid Renaissance building that houses the French embassy. The 18-metre structure is suspended by three helium-filled balloons measuring six metres in diameter.

A plane carrying coach Roberto Mancini and his Azzurri touched down at Rome's Fiumicino airport at dawn after Italy won their first European Championship title since 1968, a success widely seen as a rebound from the heartbreak failure of not qualifying for the last World Cup. After the landing, Mancini's side boarded a bus on the tarmac that will take them to the Parco dei Principi hotel in Rome until meetings later in the day with Italian President Sergio Mattarella and Prime Minister Mario Draghi.

The Italian son of the late Argentine football legend Diego Armando Maradona was awarded his father's nationality at the Argentina consulate in Rome on Thursday. Footage shows Diego Armando Maradona Junior and his family arriving at the consulate. “Today was a very emotional day. I got really excited. It is a dream come true. I fulfilled a dream and I am very happy. As the days go by I will be calmer because today was a very exciting day," he said in an interview.
