Despite the attention surrounding the Soccer World Cup, change seems to be hard to come by in Qatar.

A football fan from Saudi Arabia has finally reached Doha after walking 1,600 kilometres from Jeddah to attend the Qatar World Cup matches. Abdullah Al Sulmi, 33, an experienced trekker, arrived on Monday after 55 days. All he carried was a backpack, trekking pole and Saudi and Qatari flags.

FIFA president Gianni Infantino re-iterated next month's World Cup in Qatar will be for everyone, as some of the tournament's top officials gathered in Doha on Monday. Addressing a news conference in a recorded video, Infantino said the tournament can help "bring the world together" and that fans would be an important part of that process.

The French capital has joined several cities in saying it won't show matches from the World Cup in Qatar on big screens at fanzones out of protest. Though the deputy mayor admitted winter weather also played a role.

The World Cup in Qatar will kick-off a day earlier than scheduled if FIFA's ruling bureau agree to a plan to hold the opening ceremony and the host nation's first match on Sunday Nov. 20th, a source close to the discussions told Reuters.

Football fans might be banned from buying beer at Qatari stadiums during World Cup games, according to sources cited by news agencies. But FIFA has said that those in stadium VIP lounges will have access to alcohol.
