'Kawaii!' Olympic robot mascots thrill Tokyo students
Robot versions of Japan's Olympic and Paralympic mascots thrilled hundreds of school children in Tokyo on Monday, striking sporting poses and displaying hearts in their electronic eyes. The event at a local elementary school was billed as a chance to showcase some of the technology Japan hopes will wow visitors at the Tokyo 2020 Games.
The four-legged robot cheetah
Weighing just 9 kilogram, a four-legged robot 'cheetah' that can perform a 360-degree backflip from a standing position has been built by engineers from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). The robot also has a range of motions that makes it agile and able to pick itself up if knocked to the ground.
