Also, several people are killed in DR Congo as clashes break out between police and protesters objecting to the new chief of the country's electoral commission. And in Kenya, school closures due to the coronavirus have left the most vulnerable even more so. Authorities are worried about a surge in post-lockdown teenage pregnancies.

Covid-19 continues to hit South Africa worse than any other country on the continent, with more than 111,000 coronavirus cases and 2,000 deaths. Hospitals remain understaffed and medical workers are among the worst affected. Our correspondents spoke to nurses protesting for more equipment. Meanwhile, Sudan has also been battling the virus and pharmacies are reporting shortages of basic medication. Finally, the French navy has been working with naval services in West Africa to clamp down on drug trafficking and piracy. Our correspondents gained access to one ship in Ivory Coast.

Our reporters returned to the city of Bouaké, in Ivory Coast, which was held for 10 years by the northern rebellion during the First Ivorian Civil War. This metropolis, located in the centre of the country, now wants to move on from years of conflict and ditch its label of "rebel city".
