In Sri Lanka, 13 years after the end of the civil war with the Tamil Tigers that lasted a quarter of a century, reconciliation appears elusive. One by one, Seditra Brown lost her three sons to gun violence in Washington: first Paris in 2018, then Montray in 2019, and Kalif just last month. With 14 grandchildren, Brown says she is staying "strong" for her three daughters and extended family. Gun violence is on the rise in the United States, official statistics show, and African-Americans living in underserved, high-crime communities are affected the most.
