South Koreans expressed frustration on Wednesday (February 9) after seeing their traditional costume used in last week's Olympic opening ceremony in Beijing, but the Chinese Embassy in South Korea defended the use. A woman wearing what appeared to be a Korean hanbok dress was among those representing China's different ethnic groups during the ceremony. Some South Koreans have complained about recent Chinese assertions that various aspects of Korean culture are of Chinese origin.

Tailor Leung Ching Wah and his wife Leung Fung Pui Chun opened their business selling qipaos, a type of traditional Chinese dress, in 1965. Their shop in Hong Kong has catered to celebrities and also made the dresses for Wong Kar Wai's 2000 film 'In the mood for love'. But the iconic qipao now only tends to be worn on special occasions, with just a few tailors keeping the craft alive.
