The Lagos State Government has reported that there was no confirmed fatality yet from the 7-floor building under construction that collapsed in Banana Island, Lagos State, yesterday evening as investigations continue. Banana Island is known to be one of the most expensive parts of the state as a hub for the elite.

Lagos once again recorded another building collapse on Sunday, September 4th, 2020. In the latest incident, a seven-story building still under construction in the expensive neighbourhood of Oniru, Victoria Island, Lagos, collapsed during a heavy downpour. Two bodies have been recovered from under the rubble of the building, while some are still trapped days later.

A fire erupted at the South African parliament in Cape Town on Sunday, with media coverage showing flames coming from the roof of the building and a plume of smoke that could be seen from some miles away. It wasn't immediately clear if anyone was in the building. The fire was on the third storey of the building and initial reports indicated that it started in the office space and spread towards a gym, said Jean-Pierre Smith, a Cape Town mayoral committee member responsible for safety and security.
