Russia's invasion of Ukraine and occupation of much of its most fertile land, in the southern regions of Mykolaiv and Kherson, has been catastrophic for the country's agriculture. Back in April, our correspondent Gulliver Cragg met one of the many farmers whose land had fallen under Russian control.
More than 600 lives have been lost and over a million have been impacted by flooding across Nigeria. In the worst-hit state of Jigawa, densely populated towns are now empty and displaced residents are in camps across the state.

The United States is investigating whether civilians may have been killed in an air strike it launched to destroy a car laden with explosives in the Afghan capital Kabul. Witnesses and some media reports say a number of children were among those killed in Sunday's air strike in the crowded capital, where thousands of Afghans are still trying to flee the Taliban. The vehicle was reportedly a threat to Kabul airport and was linked to the regional Islamic State chapter.
