Real Madrid sign defender Rudiger from Chelsea

Real Madrid has agreed on a deal to sign Germany's international defender Antonio Rudiger on a free transfer with his contract with Premier League club Chelsea expiring, both clubs said on Thursday.

Chelsea midfielder N'Golo Kante will not be involved in the club's Champions League opener against Zenit St Petersburg, manager Thomas Tuchel said on Monday (September 12) ahead of their Group H clash against the Russian side. Kante has been struggling with an ankle injury this season, and was substituted at halftime against Liverpool before the international break when the problem flared up again and he subsequently missed France's World Cup qualifiers. Tuchel was hopeful Kante would be back in action against Zenit but now expects the 30-year-old to return for Sunday's Premier League trip to Tottenham Hotspur.

France and Real Madrid forward Karim Benzema was found guilty of complicity in the attempted blackmail of a former international team mate over a sex tape on Wednesday and sentenced to a one-year suspended jail term. He was also fined 75,000 euros ($84,170). Benzema's lawyer said the player would appeal against the verdict.
