AFCON daily: A look back at the quarter-finals and a pioneering female referee

With the AFCON quarter-finals done and dusted, Eurosport's Ruben Slagter joins us to take a look at which teams impressed the most. Cameroon cruised through against Gambia, Burkina Faso shocked Tunisia, Egypt impressed against Morocco and Senegal showed their quality when they beat Equatorial Guinea. Plus, FRANCE 24 Sports Reporter James Vasina catches up with referee Salima Mukansanga. The Rwandan, now a pioneer for women officials, takes us through her journey to reach the top of the men's game.

The Africa Cup of Nations tournament in Cameroon has been filled with drama but not that many onlookers. The government is aiming to try and fill up empty stadiums as supporters prefer fan zones. But first, one protester is killed in Sudan as two top US diplomats arrive in the country to try to speak to all sides involved in the deepening crisis. And in a major step for the fight against the Covid-19 pandemic in Africa, South Africa has opened a new vaccine plant, the first on the continent to cover the entire process from start to finish.

It will be a battle of the Eagles tonight in Garoua when Nigeria’s Super Eagles and the Carthage Eagles of Tunisia take to the pitch of the Roumdé Adjia Stadium in an Africa Cup of Nations round of 16 clashes. With a lot of history between Nigeria and Tunisia, many are expecting a very tough encounter, but Dennis Erezi’s guest analyst, Ifeanyi Ibeh says it’s going to be a very comfortable win for the Super Eagles against a Covid-depleted Carthage Eagles.
