AFCON 2022: Semi Final Preview – Burkina Faso vs Senegal

The Lions of Teranga and the Stallions will battle it out at the Stade Ahmadou Ahidjo on Wednesday with a spot in this year's AFCON final at stake. Neither team has won the competition in their history but both have come close, with Senegal finalists in 2019 and Burkina Faso in 2013. We're joined by Sports Editor Simon Harding and Eurosport's Ruben Slagter to take a look at which players are likely to take their teams to glory and what to expect from a match dripping with star names, including Sadio Mané and Bertrand Traoré.

Group A's matches wrap up with a series of 1-1 draws that see Burkina Faso and Cameroon move on to the knockout stage, Ethiopia go home and Cape Verde await their fate. Ghana and Senegal are among the teams from Groups B and C that will be fighting to secure their last 16 place on Tuesday. History will also be made as a game between Zimbabwe and Guinea is officiated by an all-female group of referees. We bring you the latest from the Africa Cup of Nations, where Senegal have finished top of their group, while four-time champions Ghana have crashed out of the tournament. But first, Mozambique's Defence and Security forces (FDS) say they have captured one of the leaders of the jihadist insurgency that's wreaked havoc in the region of Cabo Delgado. Also, shops were shuttered and streets barricaded in Khartoum after at least seven people were killed in protests on Monday in Sudan. And we see how Tanzania's first Netflix film "Binti" gives women a voice.

Several armored vehicles of the presidential fleet, stained with blood and riddled with bullets, could be seen near the president's residence on Monday morning after reports emerged that Burkina Faso President Roch Kabore had been detained at a military camp by mutinying soldiers. It was not immediately clear if Kabore was in the vehicle when the attack took place but residents of the president's neighborhood reported heavy gunfire overnight.

Residents in Burkina Faso's capital Ouagadougou on Monday celebrated the detention of President Roch Kabore. Singing and chanting, many walked, some rode motorbikes, to Guillaume Oueadrogo army camp. Kabore has been detained at a military camp by mutinying soldiers, four security sources and a West African diplomat said on Monday.
