Sudan's government on Monday refused to join a regional meeting aimed at ending nearly three months of brutal fighting, accusing Kenya, which chaired the talks, of favouring the rival paramilitaries.
China's Wang Yi, Russia's Sergey Lavrov and the US' Antony Blinken, and Southeast Asian ministers are expected at talks. Beijing and Washington have arranged several sets of relatively high-level talks in recent weeks.
The US-China discussions are expected to focus on addressing non-CO2 emissions, particularly methane, and preparing for the COP28 summit. The talks come amid political tensions between the two nations on multiple fronts.
Bilateral China-US talks could set the tone for the COP28 UN climate summit in November. China's manufacturing-led economy produces the most carbon emissions and Beijing has increased its commitment to coal power.
