Following days of deadly protests, opposition demonstrators set up barricades in Mali's capital Bamako, near the mosque of prominent protest advocate imam Mahmoud Dicko. President Ibrahim Boubacar Keita faces a mounting wave of demonstrations sparked by the outcome of a long-delayed parliamentary poll, but whose underlying causes include discontent over his handling of Mali's jihadist insurgency.

After beginning a strike one week ago, the United Auto Workers union has increased the number of plants affected by industrial action. Until now, workers have been striking at three sites, one each for Ford, General Motors and Stellantis.
