Trevi fountain: Church and Rome battle over tourist coins

The Church and the mayor of Rome are at odds over the reallocation of funds collected from the famous Trevi Fountain. Some of the money is set to address the city's ills and no longer go entirely to chairity.

A plane carrying coach Roberto Mancini and his Azzurri touched down at Rome's Fiumicino airport at dawn after Italy won their first European Championship title since 1968, a success widely seen as a rebound from the heartbreak failure of not qualifying for the last World Cup. After the landing, Mancini's side boarded a bus on the tarmac that will take them to the Parco dei Principi hotel in Rome until meetings later in the day with Italian President Sergio Mattarella and Prime Minister Mario Draghi.

Michelangelo dreamed it, Olivier GrossetĂȘte did it: the artist from Marseille has created a cardboard bridge over the Tiber River in Rome to link the gardens of the Villa Farnesina to the Farnese Palace, a splendid Renaissance building that houses the French embassy.
