Powerful quake strikes Mexico

A 7.4 magnitude earthquake struck southern Mexico, sending residents into the streets and prompting hospital evacuations. There have been five reported deaths, although an initial tsunami warning was later reversed.

Abortion has been decriminalised in four of Mexico's 32 states, in the first 12 weeks. Earlier this month the Supreme Court ruled that women should not be punished for abortion, opening the way for them to access the procedure across the country without fear of being prosecuted.

Around 10,000 people join an anti-abortion protest in Mexico City after the country's Supreme Court ruled that criminalising the procedure is unconstitutional. The decision followed a constitutional challenge to the penal code of the northern state of Coahuila, where abortion carries a punishment of up to three years in prison.

CCTV footage shows the ground shake in Taipei City as a strong earthquake strikes northeastern Taiwan. Taiwan's central weather bureau said the quake was of magnitude 6.5, the biggest on the island this year, while the US Geological Survey gave a lower figure of 6.2.
