Romania's premier announces a dramatic climbdown on contentious corruption legislation after five days of demonstrations that were the biggest since the fall of dictator Nicolae Ceausescu in 1989.

Dramatic footage shows a crew member of a Dutch cargo ship throwing himself into the sea after the ship began listing heavily and was too dangerous to stay aboard. Norwegian emergency services rescued the 12 crew members of the "Eemslift Hendrika", with some being airlifted to safety and others having to jump into the water. The vessel which was carrying several mid-sized boats between Bremerhaven in Germany and the port of Kolvereid ran into difficulty in the Norwegian Sea and there are now fears that it could capsize.
