One of the poorest countries in Europe has taken in tens of thousands of Ukrainian refugees. That support, and fear of further Russian aggression, have brought the tiny southeast European nation international attention.

“We stand in solidarity with the people in Hong Kong, absolutely,” the president of the Tibetan government-in-exile Lobsang Sangay said on the new security law imposed on the city by Beijing. He welcomed reports of deescalation in the Himalayas’ Galwan Valley where Indian and Chinese troops fought a brutal hand-to-hand battle on June 15, but warned verification is needed. “I think China wants to be number 1 in the world, and number 1 definitely in Asia, with no or distant number 2,” Sangay said.

In France, coming out of the closet and living openly as a member of the LGBTI+ community can be a significant psychological, emotional and social challenge. Until just 40 years ago, it was also a legal one. In 1982, the age of consent was lowered from 21 to 18 for homosexuals in France, making it the same for everyone. This landmark law paved the way for important civil liberties, including the legalisation of same-sex marriage in 2013. But there are still obstacles to be overcome.
