In Thailand, humans and wild elephants struggle to live side-by-side

In Thailand, cohabitation between humans and wild elephants is increasingly difficult, as the animals seek to expand their habitat. At least 20 people were killed by elephants last year. Meanwhile, out of fear or revenge for the damage to their crops, a dozen elephants are killed by humans in the country each year. But one NGO is trying to put an end to these incidents. Our France 2 colleagues report, with FRANCE 24's James Vasina.

A month after cannabis was removed from Thailand's narcotics list, a Thai hospital restaurant has rolled out a weed-inspired menu which has curious customers flocking to get a taste. Located in a wellness centre of Chao Phraya Abhaibhubejhr hospital in Prachinburi, about two hours from Bangkok, the restaurant uses up to five leaves in dishes, some of which were traditionally cooked with cannabis before it became illegal.

Thailand kicks off the 'Flag of the Nation' relay run, led by the country's first Olympic gold medallist Somrak Kamsing who achieved the feat in boxing at the 1996 Atlanta Games. The event will see more than 4,000 Olympic medal-winning athletes, amateur athletes, celebrities and volunteers take turn running with the Thai flag for 61 days, covering 4,581 kilometres and passing through 35 provinces in the country till reaching Suvarnabhumi Airport. The flag will then be flown to Tokyo alongside the Thai Olympic contingent.

The Scottish National Party (SNP) is hoping for a majority in the 129-seat devolved parliament, which could pave the way for a second referendum on Scottish independence.
