"Cheddar Man", Britain's oldest nearly complete human skeleton, had dark skin, blue eyes and dark curly hair when he lived in what is now southwest England 10,000 years ago, scientists who read his DNA have discovered.

An English Heritage blue plaque is put up in Brixton, south London, for Winifred Atwell, the first Black artist to have a number one in the UK singles chart. The Trinidad-born ragtime pianist released 'Let's Have Another Party' in 1954, when it spent five weeks at the top spot. The installation of the blue plaque is the culmination of a campaign devised by the Nubian Jak Community Trust, in which temporary plaques acknowledging Black Londoners have been put up in different locations around the capital.
