Damon Albarn and Abderrahmane Sissako weave a magical tale in ‘Le Vol du Boli’

Taking a symbolic colonial theft as their starting point, the creators of the musical "Le Vol du Boli" recount the historical back-and-forth between Europe and Africa through dance, music and storytelling. Malian singer Fatoumata Diawara stars in the production, which boasts a multicultural cast and crew. Assistant director Dorcy Rugamba and choreographer Mamela Nyamza join us in the studio to talk about staging sensitive material for a live audience, the potential of "edutainment" in the arts and the magical talisman that inspired the piece.
