Central Vietnam is battered by Typhoon Molave

Thousands of people are evacuated from their homes in storm-battered parts of the Philippines as the third typhoon in as many weeks barrels towards the country.

The third typhoon to hit the storm-battered Philippines in as many weeks causes major flooding in Manila on Thursday.

Big waves break on the coast of Sorsogon City in the central Philippines. Thousands of residents in the Bicol region have evacuated as Typhoon Surigae, packing sustained winds of 195 kilometers (121 miles) per hour, brings heavy rains and adverse weather.

A huge blaze engulfs more than a dozen yachts in a Hong Kong typhoon shelter. The Fire department said it took six hours to put the fire out, adding that about twenty people were evacuated and a boy was sent to hospital. Some of the yachts in the Aberdeen marina are occupied full time by locals and expats. Ten boats sank according to local media.

Typhoon In-fa has made landfall near Shanghai, where authorities canceled hundreds of flights and warned residents to remain indoors.

Taiwan is urging residents to stay indoors and brace for torrential rain and heavy winds as Typhoon Chanthu approaches. Gusts of wind reached up to 250 kph (155 mph) over the Philippines.

Authorities have said at least 208 people have died in the Philippines, with thousands of others losing their homes. Rescue operations continue around the clock.

Local officials are informing the public through social media posts about the extent of damage in their own regions, with one official saying at least 63 died in his province. Emergency rescue operations are under way.

Philippine authorities now say at least 388 people have been killed by Typhoon Rai, which hit the country nearly two weeks ago. Disease outbreaks are adding to the woes of local residents.

The wild weather caused damage to buildings and farmland in Japan's southwestern island of Kyushu. Bullet train services in southern Japan were also cancelled.
