Californians react as state lifts Covid-19 pandemic rules

People walk down Hollywood Boulevard in Los Angeles as California -- the first US state to enact a stay-at-home order just under 15 months ago -- celebrates its "reopening day" by lifting almost all pandemic-related social distancing and capacity limits. "It's not up to individual businesses and companies owners to decide if we wear it", regrets a Los Angeles resident reacting to mask mandate exceptions.

Developers in Florida have begun building the world's first pandemic-ready skyscraper, which will integrate the Miami Worldcenter complex. With a price tag of $500-million, the Legacy Tower is planned to contain 310 luxurious residences, 219 hotel rooms and 10-floors of medical facilities - featuring bacteria-killing robots, touchless technology and modern air purification systems which developers hope will protect residents against future pandemics.
