Bolivia: Child labor completely legal

Africa has some of the lowest rates of infertility in the world – at just over 13 percent, according to the latest WHO figures. But unlike in the West, couples who do struggle to conceive are often shut out of fertility treatments or have to bear the considerable cost themselves. Infertility is still widely considered taboo and frowned upon in West Africa. Our Ivory Coast correspondents report on the sole clinic in the region that's helping couples with fertility problems conceive through IVF treatment.

Extra tuition costs take a large bite out of family finances and are a contributing factor to families choosing to have only one child.

Colombian President Gustavo Petro has had to backtrack on his claim that four Indigenous children — missing for more than two weeks after a plane crash — had been found alive in the Amazon.

French President Emmanuel Macron on Friday visited a hospital that admitted four children injured a day earlier in a stabbing attack. The children were wounded on Thursday in the Alpine town of Annecy in the eastern Haute-Savoie region.

Amid heavy combat that has devastated Khartoum for six gruelling weeks, a glimmer of relief emerged as 300 children and 71 dedicated caretakers from Mygoma Orphanage were successfully evacuated on 7 June 2023. The destination: Wad Madani, located approximately 200 kilometres away.

The children were playing cricket during a break in the monsoon rains when they got caught in the landslide. Authorities have already issued alerts for more heavy rains, raising risks of fresh flooding.

Child trafficking and exploitation is on the rise along the route that undocumented migrants take from the Horn of Africa to Saudi Arabia, the UN says. Boys and girls aged 13 to 17 are particularly vulnerable.
