Aerial footage shared by Hawaiian residents on social media showed smoke as the Kilauea volcano erupted in on the Pacific Island on Thursday (May 3).

Lava pours into a lake in a crater of Kilauea as the volcano on Hawaii's Big Island erupts. Kilauea, a popular tourist attraction, is one of the world's most active volcanoes and has been erupting regularly since the 1950s.

Scientists said the eruption was contained within the national park and would not pose a threat to residents nearby. Park authorities said they expected a surge of visitors, urging them to adhere to COVID-19 measures.

Tetiꞌaroa, an almost deserted Pacific island northeast of Tahiti, is a sanctuary for birds, sea turtles and all sorts of marine life. The atoll is perhaps most famous for being bought by US actor Marlon Brando. But this picturesque French Polynesian island is being invaded by plastic waste washed ashore by ocean tides.
