The Secretary General of South Africa's ruling ANC party, Ace Magashule, has been charged with multiple counts of fraud, money laundering and corruption. He is accused of embezzling tens of millions of euros during his time as the premier of Free State province. This is one of the biggest corruption scandals ever to involve the party of Nelson Mandela. Our South Africa correspondents visited Free State, one of the poorest provinces in the country, to better understand the allegations against Magashule.

Former French President Nicolas Sarkozy will appeal his conviction for corruption and influence peddling, which saw him handed a three-year prison sentence on Monday, his lawyer said. Sarkozy's lawyer Jacqueline Laffont called the verdict "extremely severe" and "totally unfounded and unjustified", adding that the former president was "calm but determined to continue to prove his innocence".

In Ivory Coast, corruption has infected most of the public sector – from procurement contracts, to customs services, to recruitment. The country is ranked 106th out of 180 countries, according to the NGO Transparency International.
