Hurricane Dorian pounded the Bahamas on Monday, killing at least five people and inundating homes with floodwater ahead of its expected advance on the U.S. coast, where more than a million people were ordered evacuated.

At least five people have been killed in the Bahamas in what officials have described as a "historic tragedy." The downgraded Category 4 hurricane has battered the region for over 30 hours, triggering massive flooding.

Images released by the US Coast Guard of the rescue of three Cuban nationals who were stranded for more than a month on Anguilla Cay, a desert island in the Bahamas. A Coast Guard surveillance plane spotted the castaways during a routine patrol, noticing some unusual flags and some different colors. When they returned to the area to investigate, the aircrew noticed a makeshift shelter and three people signaling them. The group, who reportedly survived on coconuts and rats, had been living on the island after their boat capsized.

The bodies of 17 people — including an infant — were recovered after a boat carrying migrants from Haiti keeled over off the coast of the Bahamas.

The troubled platform's new CEO said it was hit by "unauthorized transactions," fueling rumors of a cyberattack or insider theft. FTX filed for bankruptcy protection after a crypto equivalent of a bank run.

FTX is suspected of misappropriating customer funds. The platform's founder and former CEO, Sam Bankman-Fried, lives in the island country.

John Ray III said the trading firm was poorly regulated in the Bahamas, where the company is headquartered. He also criticized the poor management style of his predecessor, Sam Bankman-Fried.
